The Lake County Library System’s 12th annual Lake BookFest featured authors of fantasy and science fiction and related genres. In fantasy, events occur outside the ordinary laws that operate within the universe and often, magic is central. It can open up new possibilities and it offers a new perspective on the "real" world. In conjunction with our special guest authors, this year's Bookfest partnered with Writers' One Flight Up and showcased local authors in a short story contest. These imaginative and talented authors include the following:
Lynn Schiffhorst, Winter Park: Seats for Three at the Bar
Jeanne Fluegge, Mount Dora: Grandfather and the Ahwahnechee
James G. Cusick, St. Johns: No Time for the Present
Tiffany Jones, Leesburg: Starting Over
Laura McAteer, Clermont: Clock of Death
Melanie T. Griffey, Eustis: Hope Taking Root
Daisy Johnson, Tangerine: In the Time of Two Moons
Victoria Nations, Longwood: The Shoal Woman
Ella Pacts, Ed. D., Mount Dora: Dragon Breath
Ron Rikki, Leesburg: I've Got Your Nose
Special thank you to the judges, Caighlan Smith, Ken Pelham and Sharon Dwyer and to the members of WOFU who participated in the screening process, Susan Jaillet, Linda Klaus, Mike Miller and Nancy Riikonan. Jody Rehman managed the submission process and the WOFU Facebook and web pages.
