Computerized access to information has become an integral part of many library activities. We believe that the Internet offers vast, diverse, and unique resources to both patrons and staff. The library plays a unique role in promoting intellectual freedom and serves as a point of voluntary access and ideas.

On the Lake County Library System home page, Library System staff attempts to provide specific starting points for searches and links to sources on the Internet which are consistent with the Library System's mission. Since the Internet is a global electronic network not under the control of the Lake County Library System, the Library System cannot regulate the nature of content of the information accessed nor protect users from information and images which they might find offensive or disturbing.

Library System staff cannot control the availability of information links which often change rapidly and unpredictably. Not all sources on the Internet provide accurate, complete, or current information. Users need to be good information consumers, exercising critical judgment in evaluating the validity of the information accessed via the Internet.

Parents must assume responsibility for their children's use of the Internet. Both parents and children are encouraged to read Child Safety on the Information Highway and My Rules For Online Safety. Two additional resources for parents are the U.S. Department of Education Parent's Guide to the Internet and the American Library Association's Great Websites for Kids.

The Lake County Library System makes no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, for the service that it is providing. Nor does the Library System assume any responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect, arising from use of its WWW server or from its connections to other Internet services.
