Mask Poem

I have had many nests in my branches
I have seen wars and strife
I have seen much more than others in the forest
For I have had a long life

People cut down my friends
But I still remain
Through storm and wind
And floods of rain

I have pulled through it all
The coldest harshest winters
With my needles to keep me warm
While others were reduced to splinters

I have seen prosperity around me
Cities rising to the sky
With skyscrapers standing tall
Rising over hundreds of feet high

Looking down on me
Dwarfing me by their size
If only I could be taller
And look them in the eyes

But alas it is my time
Timber! As I fall
By beloved forest
I no longer stand above you all
