Lake Library Card Sign-Up Month in September

Lake County It’s time once again to celebrate Lake Library Card Sign-Up Month!  Every September, the Lake County Library System joins libraries nationwide to encourage everyone to sign up for the most important card of all—a free library card—at their local library.

“One of the most important ways libraries support literacy is by helping people discover a love of reading,” said Tammy Parrott, director of the Lake County Library System. “A library card is a free pass to explore whatever interests you—on your terms. There is no required reading list or assignment, although we can help with those, too. With books, classes, and events to explore, the only direction is to follow your imagination. When people find books and experiences that speak to them, reading becomes a joy, and learning happens along the way. Lake County libraries make that possible through welcoming programs, knowledgeable staff, and resources for every age and interest.”

Need another reason to sign up for your Lake Library card this month?  Here’s our list of the top ten reasons for having a library card:

1.      Books: Access to Books in all formats (print, eBook, audiobook, large print, etc.)!

2.      Lake Library Staff: The friendly folks working at your libraries can help with everything from finding your new favorite book to finding voting information and much more.

3.      Unique Locations: Our county is extremely lucky to have 16 unique libraries (6 county branch libraries and 10 member libraries).  In every part of the county, there's a Lake Library ready to serve you.

4.      Movies: Check out thousands of free DVDs!

5.      Video Games: We have tons of titles suiting every major game system.

6.      Online Learning Resources: LinkedIn Learning, ABC Mouse, and Pronunciator are just a few of the learning tools for patrons of all ages available through mylakelibrary.org.

7.      Genealogy Resources: Access genealogy resources, including Ancestry Library, HeritageQuest Online, and Florida Memory Project.

8.      Programs: While you don't need a library card to attend a library program, this is a reminder that your Lake Libraries offer a range of programs for all ages and all interests.  Check out our calendar of events for all 16 Lake Libraries!

9.      Catalog: Use our online catalog to search for and reserve items and designate a library for convenient pick-up. You can even make lists of books you'd like to read in the future and track what you've checked out in the past.

10.  Computers: Free computer use, including Wi-Fi access, is available at your Lake Library.

For those who already have a library card, September is a great time to encourage a friend or family member to sign up for their own library card.
