Shattered
By Tracy Maple

Shattered

Shattered hearts, shattered dreams, shattered glass, ripped seams

Fire rises in the sky and smoke chokes my lungs

Screams fill my ears

I try to run

I have ran before, it is why I am here

I run for glory, for pride, not fear

It has always been a glorious celebration

Filled with joy and laughter

We have trained hard for months

Only to see our hopes shatter

I try to help, or at least try mend

Some of the broken souls exposed by evil men

But I can’t, I can barely think

It’s hard for me to focus, I can’t even speak

I do know one thing, and for one thing certain

I cannot be shattered

 I remain unbroken
