Interlibrary Loans

If you're looking for a book or magazine article and can’t find it in your library, we can check for the item at the other libraries in the Lake County Library System. If the item is available, it will be sent to your library for you to pick up. If none of our libraries has the item, we can request it from libraries outside the Lake County Library System through interlibrary loan.

Interlibrary loans are used for books or other materials that are not part of the Lake County Library System collections. Initially we request the item from libraries within the state of Florida and then extend the search to libraries nationwide. Lake County Library System staff borrows the requested items for you from participating libraries. Most public, university and college libraries from the United States and in some cases other countries provide this interlibrary loan service. Each library has its own lending policy which may change at the discretion of that library.

This is generally a free service provided to Lake County Library System patrons, but the lending library may place restrictions or charge fees for the service. These will be outlined to the requesting patron prior to the time of delivery. . If you are interested in making an interlibrary loan request, ask a librarian for help.

Patrons may request the following:

  • Books or materials not in the Lake County Library System collections
  • Journal or magazine articles
  • Most microfilm and microfiche

Most libraries will not make the following items available to borrow through interlibrary loan:

  • New books
  • An entire journal or magazine issue
  • Audio/Visual materials
  • Reference materials
  • Rare books
  • Genealogical materials

 

Interlibrary Loan Requests

Fill out the Interlibrary Loan Request online now or download a printable Interlibrary Loan Request Form here and return it to you Library's Circulation Desk (where you check out the books). Fill out the form completely. Be sure to include this information:

  • Your full name
  • Your telephone number
  • Your complete library card number
