Florida and Florida Libraries "Thinking Outside the Book"
s we continue to work through difficult economic times, the Florida Library Association is committed to strengthening the library profession by “thinking outside the book.” FLA has already undertaken important transitions over the past several years by employing its Executive Director, opening FLA’s first administrative office, and improving advocacy efforts. But times dictate that the transition must continue and FLA must find new ways to engage and interact with its members, often through the use of new available technologies. Take a look at some of our plans for next year.
Miami Dolphins Coloring Contest
Lake County students who have just completed Kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to grab their colored pencils, markers and crayons and enter Lake County Library System’s Miami Dolphins coloring contest.
Hear That Tune!
The Lake County Library System invites you to Hear That Tune! part of The Creative Side, a new initiative for teens to be more involved in music, self expression and a more modern love of the arts! Bands and soloists are reviewed on the Teen Lib page of the website. Reviews range in genres from Indie, Alternative rock; pop; and other genres.
Images of America: Groveland
On June 22nd, a new book was released detailing a history of Groveland. Part of the Images of America series, the book [appropriately titled "Groveland"] was written by former Groveland resident Doris Woolum Bloodsworth and contains numerous photos of Groveland from its inception when it was called Taylorville through current times.

The Astor County Library wants to offer at least one bilingual program per quarter. For our first program we decided on Basic Cake Decorating.
Cooper Memorial Library is Moving
The Lake County Library System announces the highly anticipated move of the Cooper Memorial Library to 2525 Oakley Seaver Drive, Clermont 34711.
A Collaborative Public and Academic Library
The Cooper Memorial Library is set to open its doors at its new location at 2525 Oakley Seaver Drive, in Clermont, on Monday, August 17th, 2009. It will be a cooperative library that will serve both the general public and the academic community. In addition, it will offer many unique features that will be available for all of its patrons. The library will offer more than 100 computers for public use, accessible throughout the adult, children’s, and teen areas.
Cagan Crossings Library Ready for Summer
The Cagan Crossings Library is ready for another busy summer. The focus is on the Children's Summer Reading Program through July 28th. Miss Kerri, Ms. Josie, and Ms. Eleanor have activities planned for most every day of the week.

Leesburg Library Mourns Adult Services Librarian
It is with great sadness that staff at Leesburg Public Library report the passing of Cathy Mahoney on May 30, 2009; she was our colleague and good friend to all.

Author Lucienne Diver will be making two special appearances in Lake County on Wednesday, September 23rd at the Leesburg Public Library, 100 E Main St., Leesburg at 4:30 p.m. and again at the City of Tavares Public Library, 314 N New Hampshire Ave., Tavares at 7 p.m.
