Join us at the Cooper Memorial Library on Wednesday, April 29th, for a free program at 2:00 p.m. in room 108 A. Cooking for Diabetes with Dr. Minerva Haugabrooks is another program in the new “Lifelong Learning at the Library” series, which features free lectures and classes for the community, presented by instructors at Lake-Sumter State College.
Food is fundamental to our survival! We choose foods based on taste, convenience, cost, habit and culture. Managing a chronic disease such as diabetes requires mindful eating. Join us as we explore some different ways to keep our culinary delights in line with a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes. In this class, participants will learn to identify common carbohydrate, protein, and fat foods used in diabetic meal preparation, recognize the steps for selecting and preparing foods from carbohydrate, protein and fat sources that improve food- related diabetic symptoms, and analyze a lunch meal that balances carbohydrate, protein, and fat food in diabetes management.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this free, entertaining and educational program. For more information about this and all the exciting new programs at the library please call us at 352-536-2275 for the details.
